Universal Moves Up 'Rogue' Part 1 Release Date

Pushing Universal Release Wicked Part 1 airs on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 from its original date of December 25, 2024.

The shift enables the film to take advantage of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend and avoid direct tentpole Christmas competition. Part 2 is still scheduled to release on December 25, 2025.

Jon M. Chu is directing The Untold Story of The Witch of Oz, starring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, The picture is based on the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire and adapted for the screen by book author Vinne Holzman and Oscar-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz for the stage production.

First introduced to the Great White Way in 2003, Wicked Based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire – himself L. Based on the 1900 novel by Frank Baum The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which had previously been adapted into MGM’s 1939 classic film of the same name. It is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz that examines how the green-skinned Elphaba (Errivo) became the Wicked Witch of the West, as well as the trajectory of the sorceress Glinda (Grande) who came to be known as the Good Witch.

Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldbaum, Jonathan Bailey and Ethan Slater also star.

Marc Platt is producing through his Universal-based Marc Platt Productions, with David Stone, Eric Byers, senior executive vice president of production, and Lexi Barta, vice president of production development, overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.
