Hanks was Talking to BBC News to promote his debut novel “The Making of Another Major Motion Picture Masterpiece”, about the making of a big-budget Hollywood superhero film spanning 80 years of changing America and a troubled soldier returning from war Featuring characters including, a young boy with an artistic gift, an inspired and eccentric director, a gorgeous movie star on the rise, a tireless production assistant and members of the film crew.

Hanks weighs in on the trend of publishing houses editing novels to make them more suitable for contemporary times Ian Fleming's Bond Series And this Works of Roald Dahl.

“I think we're all grown ups here. Instead of letting someone decide what we may or may not be offended by, let's trust our own sensibilities,” Hanks said. With whom I am angry and with whom I am not angry. I am against reading any book from any era that says ‘abbreviated due to modern sensibilities'.

Of the pompous movie star character in the novel, Hanks said: “I've drawn every single one of those moments of behavior on set myself. Not everybody's at their best every single day on a motion picture set. There have been tough days trying to be professional when my life is falling apart in more ways than one and the need of the day for me is to be funny, engaging and loving – and that's the last way I feel.
