The Eagles are bringing back a core member of their secondary as they re-sign free agent cornerback James Bradberry to a three-year contract.
ESPN first reported the 29-year-old Bradberry’s signing of a $38 million deal. Bradberry had three interceptions last season as he and fellow cornerback Darius Slay formed a top tandem.
Meanwhile, Slay, who is 32, was cleared to trade last week. He is entering the final year of his contract, which would count $26 million over the Eagles’ salary cap, barring an extension, a risky proposition for a cornerback in Slay’s age.

This made Bradberry’s return even more significant.
Bradberry’s signing came a day after the Eagles lost three defensive starters to free agency from defensive tackle Javon Hargrave to the San Francisco 49ers (4 years, $84 million), linebacker TJ Edwards to the Chicago Bears (3 years, $84 million). 19.5 million) and safety Marcus Epps to the Las Vegas Raiders (2 years, $12 million).
But the Eagles figuratively struck back on Tuesday by retaining Bradberry. The Eagles reportedly signed running back Rashaad Penny from the Seattle Seahawks, while keeping another running back in Boston Scott.
However, they lost linebacker Kazir White to the Arizona Cardinals.
Penney’s signing would likely mean the end of Miles Sanders’ tenure in Philadelphia. Sanders, who rushed for 1,269 yards last season, bid farewell to Eagles fans shortly after the news of Penny’s signing broke.
“A heartfelt thank you to the city of Philadelphia,” Sanders wrote with a heart-shaped emoji.
Seattle’s first-round pick in 2017, Penny, has had an injury-riddled career. He hasn’t played in more than 10 games in any season since his rookie season. Last season, Penny played in only 5 games before suffering a season-ending foot injury.
But he ran for 346 yards on 57 carries, an average of 6.1 yards per carry. For his career, Penny has averaged 5.7 yards per carry.
As for Bradberry, he played for one year last season, proving that the Giants signed him to a $10 million deal after releasing him last May, by the time many teams had already hit their salary cap. Space was used.
Bradberry admitted after the season that he was not going to sign a concession deal this offseason. But Bradberry told CBS Sports NFL Insider Josina Anderson late last week that the Eagles asked him for a chance to counter another team’s offer.
Bradberry said two days after the Super Bowl, “I think my statistics show that I should be a top-dollar man.” “But I know there’s a whole bunch of variables that go into it. We’ll see.
“I think I’m worth top dollar. Just who’s out there who’s willing to pay at the end of the day.”
It turned out that there were eagles.
