The first half of the upcoming season, premiering June 16 at 8 p.m. on STARZ, picks up after the events of Season 6: Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Young Evan (John Bell) to Claire (Caitriona Balfebefore being wrongly convicted of the murder of Malva Christie (Jessica Reynolds); However, the American Revolution has arrived, pushing Jamie onto the battlefield.
As the Frasers “navigate the perils of the Revolutionary War,” a synopsis reads, “they learn that sometimes to defend what you love, you have to leave it behind.” Amidst the rebellion, the summary continues, Jamie and co. “are faced with impossible decisions that have the potential to tear their families apart.” That's pretty clear in the action-packed trailer (above), which shows soldiers storming the battlefield and glimpses of Jamie fainting during the fight.

“Season 7 is all about fractured villains,” executive producer Maril Davis recently teased to EW, “A supersized season calls for a supersized villain — or multi-dimensional villain.” The biggest villain of all, of course, will be the chaos of the war, although Jamie and Claire are “very accustomed to the war,” said co-executive producer Matthew Roberts.
“The very first scene we ever shot outlander Claire was in World War II,” said Roberts. “Weirdly, they're war veterans, Jamie and Claire, but we have different characters. We have young Ian (John Bell) and William, who don't know the difference between what they read about the war and reality. In this way the war affects their loved ones more than it affects them.”
“This season is so epic,” Balfe teased. “This is the season that is closest to Season 1 in terms of scope and span.”
