Call it a break for Oklahoma softball. That is, if you can really describe getting a top-10 team to play you in a non- position as a break, that is.

Florida State, ranked No. 5 last week, is coming into Stillwater by knocking off No. 2 Oklahoma State two of three times over the weekend. The Seminoles won’t be returning just yet, agreeing to play against the No. 1-ranked Sooners on Tuesday evening in Norman.

For OU Head Coach patty gaso, a relief. Instead of chasing down quality non- opponents and going into their backyard, a top-tier team is coming to Norman.

You can thank spring break.

“It’s great. I’ve had it a long time,” Gasso said last week. “It seems like we’re always the ones who have to go find it. Luckily, they’re playing Oklahoma State and reached out and said, It’s our spring break, can we play you on Tuesday? Absolutely.”

“It’s great for our fans to see. It’s cool that it’s going to be a mid-week night game. It’s going to be a lot of fun. I really love their coaching staff. Lonnie (Almeida) is a is a former OU player. Excited to have her back. She makes a really good, hard working team. They remind me of our own team where they are well rounded on all sides. Getting a top-five matchup at is something That’s something I haven’t done in a long time. I’m so glad it worked.

The Sooners and Seminoles have not met since battling in the Women’s College World Series championship series in 2021, which was won by OU.
