“It was his tweet that got the show cancelled,” Barr said of Gilbert. “And then she tweeted ‘It's sad when a cast member,' something about racist, blah, blah. Owns my work.”
Original roseanne ran from 1988 to 1997 and followed the day-to-day lives of the blue collar Conner clan in the fictional town of Landford, Ill. When ABC brought it back in 2018, it was one of the greatest sitcoms of all time — with most of the original cast including Barr and Gilbert as their daughter Darlene.

Condemnation was sharper than Gilbert, among several Otherwho called Barr's comments “disgusting” and not a reflection of “the cast and crew or anyone involved with our show”.
Barr felt particularly betrayed by Gilbert, when she “begged me to come back saying, ‘I've got your back. This time I won't let anyone hurt you. You. I know. You have mental health problems, but I'll be there. I'm going to stand in the way.'”
roseanne was canceled after the first season and Barr's character was killed off—a decision, Barr felt, had a message for him.

Although Barr said sincerely sorry Gilbert in 2018 for denouncing his racism, the next year she claimed Gilbert “that tweet ruined the show and my life“One would think All Those “Fire Roseanne” and “Cancel Roseanne” Tweets Maybe it has something to do with it too, but the right use of “disgusting” is very powerful.
A rep for Sarah Gilbert did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment.
