Keke Palmer to star in Universal comedy ‘The Backup’ (exclusive)

Palmer will star in the project, which will be produced by Hart and Banner, their chief content officer at Heartbeat, Brian Smiley. Palmer and Sharon Palmer will produce through Palmer’s production company Bigg Boss Entertainment.

Also joining the ranks of producers is Autumn Bailey-Ford through her production company, Autumn Bailey Entertainment.

Written by Chris Brown and Jordan Gouveia, the script follows a player, Ben, who decides he’s finally ready to settle down with his childhood friend Alyssa (Palmer). Unfortunately, she reveals that she is engaged to a handsome billionaire and needs him to be her best man. This in turn sets Ben in motion of going to the wedding in Maui with his boys to outdo his fiancée and win her back.

No director is attached to the project, which is under development. Heartbeat’s Patricia Braga and Kayla Stamps are executive producers.

Palmer last starred opposite Daniel Kaluuya in Jordan Peele’s much-hyped 2022 horror feature, No, The Emmy-winning actress-singer headlines this period revenge thriller Alice and played a role in Pixar light years,

Palmer has been replaced by 3 Arts Entertainment and Hertz Lichtenstein. Marks Law Group rep.
