Amid disturbing headlines, Major has maintained his innocence through his representatives. The actor's attorney, Priya Chowdhary, released the following statement after court on Tuesday:
We have provided the District Attorney (DA) with irrefutable evidence that the woman is lying, including video evidence showing nothing, specifically not where she claimed. We did this with the DA's explicit promise not to ‘fix' her case and change it because we proved the woman was lying.
Yet this false case continues, the woman's claimed location changes and her story changes. This is a witch hunt against Jonathan Majors fueled by baseless claims. Rather than dismiss the charges in the face of the woman's obvious lies, the DA adjusts the charges to match the woman's new lies. To be clear, there are no new allegations against Mr. Major.
Now, we've got more video evidence of her innocence, but we're hesitant to share it, fearing the DA will again ask the woman to change her story.
The criminal justice system is riddled with explicit and implicit biases. When Mr. Majors showed a white police officer the injuries the woman had inflicted on him, the white officer got in Mr. Major's face and taunted him, saying that if the officer slapped Mr. Major, the officer would cut off his finger. Will not break None of the white officers present investigated Mr. Major's assault. Worse, the District Attorney has shown no intention of pursuing the charges against the woman or verifying the facts.
This glaring double standard between the treatment of Jonathan Majors, a black man weighing 200 pounds, and his accuser, exposes the racial bias that pervades the criminal justice system.
Fans and studio executives are anxiously watching to see how everything unfolds. Did more women come forward? Will the DA pursue the case? Here's what we know about the situation.
