So when the four-time champion was named to the 2022-23 NBA All-Defensive Second Team on Tuesday, Green was a bit speechlessto say the least.

“You truly made the second team all-, it's like a backhanded compliment, like a backhanded slap in the face,” Green said on his podcast.Drummond Green Show”, which was published on Thursday. “Like, ‘Hey you're one of the defenders, oh man you're on the other team.' Come on. I find it in a way.

“I definitely think I had a first-team all-defense year. Now, mind you, we didn't win as many games, but did other teams win as many games? Or is it because we had our standards? Interesting. Having said that, congratulations to all the guys who made the first team, and congrats to all the guys who made the second team.

Green was joined by Bam Adebayo of Miami, Ozzie Anunobi of Toronto, Dillon Brooks of Memphis and Derrick White of Boston.

The five players who made the All-Defensive First Team are Chicago's Alex Caruso, Milwaukee's Ju Holliday, Memphis' Jaren Jackson Jr., Milwaukee's Brook Lopez and Cleveland's Evan Mobley.

While the “backhanded” praise came as a surprise to Green, the Warriors forward made it clear that he is still grateful that his hard work, especially on the defensive end of the floor, continues to be recognized.

“This is an absolutely incredible honor,” continued Green. “I know what I just said is a slap in the face, and quite frankly I feel that way myself, but don't twist it. I' forever grateful. I thank the voters for accepting me in defense.” Grateful. I don't take it lightly.

“It's eight times in 11 years for me. So I always feel grateful and honored. Especially when it comes to all defensive teams, it's something I take very seriously. And next year, I Looking forward to getting my first team.” Stamp back.”
