Video: Driver Has Heart Attack, Bus Rams Several Vehicles In Madhya Pradesh; 2 Killed

0

Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh):

In dramatic scenes caught on camera at a traffic signal in Jabalpur, a city bus ran into several vehicles after its driver died of sudden heart attack. It killed one of the people while several others were injured as rickshaws and motorbikes were run over, police said.

It could have been worse, said police sources, but the bus was at a relatively slow speed and its low floor also ensured that people dragged by it did not go under it. The bus overturned after hitting an e-rickshaw.

Police said six people, including bus passengers and two children in the e-rickshaw, were injured severely. An elderly person hit by the bus died during treatment; is identity details were not immediately available.

The driver, Hardev Pal, 60, had been working with the City Metro bus service for a decade. Sudden cardiac arrest led to his death and he fell onto the steering wheel, leading to the tragedy.

UPI, Digital Transactions: Government Extends Deadline for 30 Percent Cap

0

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Friday extended the deadline for third party UPI players to meet its 30 percent volume cap in digital payment transactions by two years to end-December 2024.

The decision may provide a relief to third party app providers (TPAP) like Google Pay and Walmart‘s PhonePe which have a majority share in UPI-based transactions.

NPCI runs the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) used for real-time payments between peers or at merchants’ end while making purchases.

In November 2020, NPCI had announced to limit a single third party app to handle only 30 percent of overall UPI transaction volumes. The cap was to come in force from January 1, 2021.

However, the TPAPs (live on November 5, 2020) which were exceeding the cap were given a period of two years to comply with the norms in a phased manner.

“Taking into account the present usage and future potential of UPI, and other relevant factors, the timelines for compliance of existing TPAPs who are exceeding the volume cap, is extended by two (2) years i.e. till December 31, 2024, to comply with the volume cap,” NPCI said in a circular.

NPCI further said that in view of significant potential of digital payments and the need for multi-fold penetration from its current state, it is imperative that other existing and new players (banks and non-banks) shall scale-up their consumer outreach for the growth of UPI and achieve overall market equilibrium.

TPAPs typically tie-up with banks at the back-end to add users and process payments for them.

It was reported last month that the NPCI is planning to propose the Reserve Bank to implement the earlier deadline of December 31, 2023, for limiting the volume cap of players to 30 percent. It is to be noted that currently there is no volume cap, leading to Google Pay and PhonePe accounting for around 80 percent of the total market share.

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan will be receiving a special gift from ‘KBC 14’ contestant Chandrashekhar Chaurasiya. The 30-year-old hails from Korba in Chhattisgarh. He will give a painting to the host that highlights Chhattisgarh’s art.

Big B and Chandrashekhar will have an interesting conversation about the paintings of Raja Ravi Verma. Then they will discuss various art styles of Chhattisgarh such as Rajwar painting and Paira art. Chandrashekhar would reveal that he learned these styles during the lockdown period.

A government job aspirant, Chandrashekhar will also talk about his grandmother’s admiration for Big B and share an interesting anecdote about her frustration with Chandrashekhar because of the lack of screen time given to Big B in the 2000 movie ‘Mohabbatein’.

Chandrashekhar says: “Mohabbatein was in the theatres and we were going to watch the movie. My grandmother was not going and all of us insisted by saying that it is Amitabh Bachchan’s movie. She was then coerced to come. When we were watching the movie we saw that you had a good amount of screen time at the beginning of the movie but by the end, you did not.”

“Then and there, my Nani started scolding my mausi (aunt) there and then saying, ‘What is this? I cannot see Amit Ji. Why have you brought me here? You said Amit Ji is in the movie but there is so little of him.'” Big B then talks to Chandrashekar’s grandmother virtually.

‘KBC 14’ airs on Sony Entertainment Television.

Pakistan’s Pitches From ‘Dark Ages’, Says Cricket Board Chief Ramiz Raja | Cricket News

0

Pakistan’s pitches belonged in “the dark ages”, the country’s top cricket official said Friday, after England plundered runs on a lifeless wicket in Rawalpindi. The visitors were finally all out for 657 — including a record 506 from the first day Thursday — with four batsmen scoring centuries off the hapless Pakistan bowling. In reply, Pakistan’s openers were nearing centuries of their own at close of play Friday with Abdullah Shafique on 89 and Imam-ul-Haq 90.

Ramiz Raja, a former national captain and now Pakistan Cricket Board chief, said he was “not happy at all” over the state of the pitch, which he admitted was “not a great advert” for Test cricket.

“We live in the dark ages of pitches in Pakistan,” he told reporters, adding, “it’s embarrassing for us, especially if you have a cricketer as chairman.”

On the same pitch in March this year, some 1,187 runs were scored for the loss of just 14 wickets as Pakistan and Australia played out a tame draw. Rawalpindi was termed “below average” by International Cricket Council match referee Ranjan Madugalle, who also awarded it a demerit point.

A venue is banned for 12 months if it accumulates five demerit points over a period of five years. Pakistan has played little Test cricket at home for over a decade as security issues forced fixtures to neutral grounds abroad.

After the criticism earlier this year, Raja brought in Australian specialist Damien Hough, who suggested removable drop-in pitches as a solution. “I think our way out is for drop-in pitches,” Raja said.

“If you want to nail England, for example, we’ve got to prepare a drop-in pitch that turns from ball number one.

“It is better than having this hodge-podge where you get a half-baked pitch which is neither quick nor spin.”

Still, despite the placid surface, Raja credited England with making the most of the conditions. “I’ve never seen batting like England’s on day one,” he said.”

Bangladesh Name Liton Das Captain For ODIs Against India | Cricket News

BAN vs IND: Liton Das replaced an injured Tamim Iqbal as the skipper of Bangladesh© AFP

Bangladesh on Friday named batsman Liton Das as captain for the one-day international series against India starting this weekend, replacing injured Tamim Iqbal. The three-match series begins in Dhaka on Sunday, with the tourists also playing two Tests during their month-long visit. Regular captain Tamim was ruled out of the ODI series after a groin injury during a practice match in the capital on Wednesday. He is also doubtful for the Test series, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in a statement.

Das, 28, has been a solid run-scorer since his 2015 debut but has never led Bangladesh in the 50-over format or Tests.

His sole experience as international captain came during a Twenty20 match against New Zealand last year.

“Liton is one of the more experienced players in the side and has demonstrated leadership qualities. He has a sharp cricketing mind and reads the game well,” BCB cricket operations chief Jalal Yunus said in a statement.

But Yunus added the team would miss Tamim’s leadership during the tour.

“Under his captaincy the team has played some outstanding cricket in the last couple of years and he has been our most prolific batsman in this format,” he said.

“He will be missed but we also feel that Liton has the attributes to do a good job as captain.”

India arrived in Bangladesh on Thursday for their first tour there since 2015.

The first two ODIs will be held in Dhaka on December 4 and 7, while the third is at Chittagong on December 10, after which both sides will play one Test in each city.

Rain forced a draw in the only Test during India’s last visit to Bangladesh, while the hosts won that year’s ODI series 2-1.

MIUI 14 Changelog Leaked Ahead of Launch: Here’s What’s New

0

MIUI 14, Xiaomi’s Android 13-based operating system update for eligible smartphones, has seemingly leaked on Twitter ahead of its official announcement. The OS was set to be unveiled alongside the Xiaomi 13 smartphone series, on December 1. However, the company recently revealed that it had postponed the launch event, and a new date is yet to be announced. The MIUI 14 update will be based on Android 13, but some older Xiaomi smartphones could also receive the update based on Android 12, based on Xiaomi’s previous MIUI releases over the years.

MIUI Polska writer Kacper Skrzypek tweeted the MIUI 14 changelog, detailing the changes in Xiaomi’s upcoming skin. According to the screenshots of the changelog, MIUI 14 will take up less storage space and feature an improved system architecture, resulting in better performance, more efficient power savings and boost in gaming experience. The changelog also claims that the OS will focus on security, offering increased support for end-to-end privacy features.

Users can also look forward to increased personalisation, with more widget combinations, super icons for a redesigned home screen and folders that highlight apps for one-tap access, according to the leaked screenshot. Smart features such as text recognition in Gallery images are also seemingly on the way, with eight languages supported.

The changelog features a dedicated section on interconnectivity, claiming a “significant revamp” for the Mi Smart Hub, which is set work much faster and support more devices. Inter-device connectivity is expected to receive a boost, with greater bandwidth allocation boosting discovering, connecting and transferring items between phone, tablet, earphones and TV.

The update is also said to bring a greater focus on Xiaomi’s device ecosystem as well. “Whenever text input is required on your TV, you can get a convenient pop-up on your phone and enter text there,” the changelog mentions. Incoming phone calls can be swiftly transferred to a tablet, too.

According to the screenshots of the MIUI 14 update changelog, iOS-style family sharing is also on the way, with shareable photo albums available for a group of up to eight members. There’s also added functionality to the Mi AI voice assistant, which can now double as a scanner, translator and a call assistant that filters spam calls. There are other minor improvements as well, including advanced search capabilities and deeper parental controls.

There’s no word as of yet on an official announcement for Xiaomi 13 series and MIUI 14 after the launch event was postponed on Thursday. The Chinese manufacturing giant had initially announced an early access program for Chinese users to take the OS for a test run ahead of official rollout. It’s also worth noting that some of these features may not be available to users outside China, when the OS is eventually launched to users around the world.
